A Welsh wedding DJ has been jailed for 14 weeks after he urinated over a cancer patient.

Leigh Brookfield, of Dan Y Lan in Felinfoel, filmed himself deliberately urinating on Peter Barton at the Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club on Boxing Day and posted it on Snapchat.

He admitted common assault and was bailed last December where he told the court "the whole pub does it in Benidorm".

During the trial, the court heard how Brookfield, 40, approached the urinal Mr Barton was standing at when he began speaking about his cancer diagnosis when Brookfield said "sorry to hear that bud" before urinating on the back of his trousers.

In a post on Facebook following the incident he revealed it was not the first time he had done it.

His post read: "It's just something me and the boys do when we are drunk, and until watching the video back I didn't realise that the nice gentleman next to me was going through health problems."

The incident took place during what was supposed to be Brookfield's "last hoorah" drinking session before his partner gives birth early next year.

After leaving the club, Mr Brookfield moved on to a nearby Wetherspoon pub, where he was confronted by a number of drinkers who had seen the shameful video.

Prosecutor Lucy Mansfield had previously told the court last December: “The defendant entered the toilets and has spoken to the complainant and the complainant explained that he has recently received a prostate cancer diagnosis. Whilst this was happening the defendant proceeded to urinate on the complainant and while this was occurring video was posted online.”

Brookfield's defence team told the court he had a history of alcohol-related offending and asked for pre-sentence report to be carried out to address his alcohol use.

His lawyer, Steven John said: “This was obviously committed in drink and there's a history of alcohol-related offending.”

Following the incident Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club said it had banned Brookfield for life.

Its statement read: "“(Peter) was understandably upset about this incident as he has recently had treatment for cancer.

"We are a family friendly club and are devastated that our name has been bought into this despicable act by a person who has no association with the club and through no fault of our own. Leigh Brookfield has been banned from the club for life for his vile actions.”

Brookfield's DJ slot at a nearby club was cancelled after the incident came to light.
