RM2M3T1H1–The determined-looking ladies of the 'South' football team who played the 'North' team at the in the opening match of the British Ladies' Football Club at Nightingale Lane ground at Crouch End in March 1895. The Sketch magazine was not terribly positive about their abilities and claimed the ten thousand spectators were only there to satisfy their curiosity.
RM2T4CBJP–An old engraving of a lawn tennis court and four players set for a game of doubles. It is from Victorian book of the 1890s on sports, games and pastimes. The court markings shown here differ slightly from a modern court – the horizontal service line (on which the two women are standing) these days ends at the first of the two inner vertical ‘tramlines’ rather than go the full width of the court. The racquet sport traditionally named lawn tennis was invented in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England, UK is now simply called tennis. It is the direct descendant of what is now called real tennis.

'The targets, six pair in number, were pitched near the Castle. There were four pairs for members and two for visitors; and as the shooting proceeded it was watched with much interest by large numbers of the principal inhabitants of the district.
