SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team returned to the field on Tuesday night to open spring practice. It was the first of fifteen scheduled practices for the Terriers.
On the first day the Terriers worked out in helmets on the lower practice fields for nearly two hours. The practice focused primarily on the fundamentals. Team schemes were implemented on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
"We are excited to get started," said head coach
Shawn Watson. "We had a really good winter conditioning period with Coach Swift. Every year in the spring you are excited to get started because you have been away from it. We are also excited because of the good winter we had. We have some new guys out here that came in at the semester break so we are excited to have them in the fold.
"This spring what we need to do is improve across the board," continued Watson. "I like where our defense ended the season and they need to pick up where they left off. We are going to move some people around to different spots so there will be some transition there that I believe will make us a better football team. On offense, it is going to be a highly contested spring at the quarterback spot with four veterans and a new freshman here. We have an experienced group of receivers so I look forward to see how we develop them and move forward. We are going to have a remake of the offensive line with some new guys we have in. All-in-all we are excited and we know what we have to improve on."
A group of eight players are returning for their fifth year with the Terriers. Included are RB
Ryan Ingram, who led the team in rushing last season, and LB
David Powers, who led the team in tackles. LB
John Boyles, QB
Bryce Corriston, OL
Anthony Garcia, OL
Briggs Kearse, DL
Anthonie Lattany, RB
David Legette and CB
Isaiah Wadsworth also return.
The team welcomes a total of seven transfers who are participating in practice, including TE

Mason Howard, DL
Trenton Kintigh, OL Elisha Samples, and WR D.J. Tyler. Freshman quarterback
Eric Handley also enrolled for the spring semester.
