Third Week of Spring Practice Complete for Football

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team returned from spring break with three practices during the week, with nine of the fifteen scheduled sessions now complete. On Saturday, the team worked for ninety minutes in full pads.

During the full team periods, the Terries worked on a variety of situations including red zone. The final period was the two-minute drill, with Bryce Corriston completing a first down pass to Jordan Davis and Bridger Jones hitting a 54-yard field goal to end the practice.

"I thought we were really rusty on Tuesday coming off of break which is to be expected," said head coach Shawn Watson. "We had a good practice on Thursday and did a great job today in our first time dealing with situational plays. We got out of it exactly what we wanted to get out of it. We did some normal down plays, then added some third down situations. We wanted to see them block, tackle, run, and catch – the fundamentals. I am happy where we are at right now."

Coach Watson also announced the addition of Jonathan Saxon to the coaching staff as co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach following the departure of Bryan Bing, who accepted a Tony Dungy Coaching Fellowship with the Indianapolis Colts.

Saxon spent the previous eight years on the coaching staff at South Carolina State, including the last four years as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. In his eight seasons, the Bulldogs won three MEAC titles.

The Terriers will be back on the field on Tuesday, April 18. The spring practice period will end on Saturday, April 29 with a spring game as part of alumni weekend.
