THE Parry People Movers are back on track in Stourbridge after being sidelined since September 11.

The eco-friendly light railway cars, which run between Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town stations, were withdrawn after ‘excessive wheel wear’.

A statement from the Cradley Heath firm Parry People Movers said: “The lightweight rail operation restarted on the Stourbridge Town branch.”

And the firm confirmed a long term solution to the engineering conundrum has yet to be found.

A spokesman for the firm said: “All parties from across the rail industry are working together to produce a permanent solution to the issue of wheel wear.”

The problems started in August when when there was a sudden increase in wear on the wheel flanges of both class 139 railcars.

The spokesman added: “Possible factors include the wheel profile, wheel metallurgy, design of suspension, or alterations that may have occurred in the operation of the rail lubrication regime using trackside equipment on a line notable for its sharp curves.”

The Parry People Movers were reintroduced to the Stourbridge line, which is one of the shortest in Europe, in May this year after trial starting in 2005.

The Stourbridge service is run by London Midland Trains.

A spokesman for London Midland said: "We are pleased to report that the Class 139 light railcar is now back in passenger service on the Stourbridge town line.

"The railcar is innovative new technology, the first of its kind in the UK, and offers environmental benefits."
