Aralia cordata 'Sun King'

Aralia 'Sun King'

‘Sun King’ resembles a leafy shrub but actually is a herbaceous perennial.  Within one season it may grow to 4′ tall.  Looking for a colorful plant for the shade, ‘Sun King’ may be your answer.  It can be grown in part part sun to full shade.  A few hours of sun will bring out yellow tones in the foliage.  When grown in deeper shade the foliage will take on a lime green color.  Japanese Spikenard is a bold plant that contrasts well with other plants such as hostas, ferns, heucheras, and astilbes.  St. Louis winters will kill this plant to the ground but in early spring it will emerage and re-grow into a stately specimen.
