Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Sarcophyton subviride are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Sarcophyton subviride, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Sarcophyton subviride, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

The leathery coral Sarcophyton subviride forms colonies with beige-yellowish polyps and distinctly folded margins.
The coral was known only from Aldabra, Seychelles, but there followed further findings from the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea, so that it can be assumed that Sarcophyton subviride has a much larger distribution area than previously assumed.

Interesting seems to be the fact that there is a colonization of the soft coral by the mold Aspergillus terreus, but which long-term effects this has for the coral is still open.

Experience reports about a successful keeping of the soft coral are missing as well as a size specification of the animal.

Synonym: Sarcophytum subviride Tixier-Durivault, 1958
