Description

This is a true wild form, not a garden hybrid. It is fully fertile and has a well-defined wild range across parts of mainland Italy, Sardinia and one small area of Southern France.

The wide, shallow trumpet is a deep, golden yellow and the surrounding petals are a slightly paler yellow but they are still quite deeply coloured. The blooms are superbly scented. Very distinct and different in appearance to the white forms which are widespread in cultivation and subtly different in scent also.

A very sunny, well drained spot in a fertile loam, this can be potted or grown in the bulb frame.

This is the plant that can be found in old literature as Narcissus aureus and it is sometimes seen as tazetta aurea or just bertolonii! It is probably one of the parent species of the yellow coloured tazetta hybrids.
