Description

This beautiful Japanese plant ‘Kuruma-yuri‘ loosely translates as “Wheel Lily”. It has short stems with a whorl of radiating leaves like a wheel, or parasol, about half way up the stem.

The flowers are borne in a cluster of two to seven depending on vigour and vary from apricot to intense orange, with reflexed petals spotted and flecked in deep purple-black.

Readily grown, this lily likes deep, damp, leafy soils in shade, but also appreciates good drainage. It makes fragile bulbs with tiny ‘rice grains’ attached and as the bulbs cannot be moved without some fragmentation, please do not expect flowers in the first year after moving.
