Description
Stems of 30-60 cm are densely clothed with short, narrow, deep green leaves and each stem may carry up to four large flowers, some 12 cm long.
These flowers are long and bell-shaped with upturned petal tips. The colour is variable from bronzed old-gold to yellow or green, very densely speckled with red-purple all over the inner petal surface. Most of ours seem to have a lovely emerald infusion on the upper half of the exterior of the flower.
This one needs careful management of its water in the winter to do well. It should be almost dry but not quite enough to dry it out, in true ‘alpine’ fashion. Very cold-hardy and stunning in appearance.
