Description

Botanical literature compares this species with Hyacinthus litwinowii, saying that the distinctions are lobes shorter than tube and with protruding stamens. For gardeners it is much more intriguing to hear that it also can have a much deeper flower colour – bluish violet, rather than pale blue (though experience now suggests that this is very variable in both species).

This seed grown stock is from the central part of the Kopet Dag in Turkmenistan, though it is happy here in a sunny, well drained spot outside (in a raised bed with us but not essential).
