Description

Lovely 4 cm long starry, flowers of bright pink (usually) to white (rarely) are borne in bunches, in abundance, in the autumn. Each bloom has lovely yellow anthers.

As with many Colchicum, the flowers are borne before the leaves. When these follow they are quite long but very narrow.

This is perfectly happy here in a well drained sunny soil outside but it has acquired a ‘tender’ reputation in the literature which you may come across, so I need to mention here that we have never found this to be justified in any way, with us it is a hardy plant. These are raised from Cyprus stock and there it grows on mountain slopes covered in winter by snow.
