Description

Found across parts of Iran, Afghanistan and India this stock was raised from plants first found in the Elburz Mountains, just north of Tehran.

It is related to Allium umbilicatum but has stems 25-40 cm tall producing a dense umbel of numerous, bell-shaped flowers of bright pink, which tone to purplish on the mid-vein of the petals. There are just 4-5 hollow leaves.

A lovely, bright species, sadly rare, but very good in a sunny spot with good drainage and dry summer rest, or if you prefer (as we do) potted and grown under alpine glass.
