Description
Papery Onion.
An uncommon endemic of woods in Northern California. The 1 cm bulb makes 2-3 slender, flat leaves and a 40 cm stem bears a round head of up to 35 flowers with white or pale pink petals each marked at the base with a darker pink stripe, almost like a tiny Nomocharis! These flowers dry and become papery as they age, without substantially changing their appearance and they also retain some of their pink colouring when dry.
Raised from wild collected US seed, California, Tuolumne County, 1036m, 2016. The price reflects the initial seed scarcity and 4 years spent getting these to size, not any difficulty of growth.
Sunny spot or potted.
