Dendrophylax alcoa

Very small and leafless Angrecoid from Hispaniola (Dominican republic) where it grows at around 1500 meters. Flowers are quite long lasting., around 2 weeks. The species name derives from a Canadian mining company (Alcoa Ltd) that prospected the area where this orchid was found. Nowadays the area is abandoned and treated as a national park.
