Common Name Ingrid's Masdevallia [Senora Portilla Orchid Nurserywoman Current]
Flower Size 1.2" [3 cm]
Found in southern Ecuador at elevations around 1000 meters as a miniature to small sized, warm growing epiphyte with slender, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly obovate, obtuse, cuneate basally into the petiolate base leaf that blooms on a erect, arising from low on the ramicaul, slender, triquetrous, racemose, singly successively few flowered 6 to 7" [15 to 17.5 cm] long inflorescence with tubular, imbricating, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
"Similar to M aguirrei but differs in the larger, orange flower. The triquetrous peduncle is shorter, but still longer than the leaf. The raceme is congested and successively few flowered. Beyond the sepaline tube the synsepal is expanded and ending in a pair of close, short tails. Common to other species in the section, the petals are oblong with a marginal callus without a protruding process. The oblong lip is also similar with marginal folds between the epichile and the hypochile. The apex is rounded, recurved and abruptly apiculate." Luer 2000
