This waterwise perennial has soft, silver-gray foliage with a light yellow flower. It’s the kind of plant that people will stop and ask, “What’s that?” Sarada’s Greek mountain tea has the soft leaves of a lamb’s ear. But in contrast to traditional lamb’s ear plants, it stays compact, doesn’t run, and resists disease. And worth noting… it’s typically both rabbit-resistant and deer-resistant. We have it planted under a pepper tree, a cherry tree, and hazel and they all seem to have settled in well. The herb has a long history of use as a medicinal, traditionally used as a sleep aid, and some modern research suggests that it may help improve sleep quality and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep. Cacti & Succulents? Same or Different? Succulents and cacti are related but not exactly the same. All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti. The primary distinction between the two lies in the presence of areoles, which are specialized structures that produce spines or flowers. Succulents: Definition: Succulents are plants that store water in their leaves, stems, or roots, allowing them to survive in arid conditions. Characteristics: They come in various shapes, sizes, and forms, and may or may not have spines. Examples: Aloe vera, Echeveria, and Jade plant are succulents that do not belong to the cactus family. Cacti: Definition: Cacti are a specific family (Cactaceae) of succulent plants. Characteristics: Cacti are characterized by the presence of areoles—small, specialized, round or oval structures from which spines, flowers, and new shoots emerge. Examples: Saguaro, Barrel cactus, and Prickly Pear are examples of cacti. In summary, while all cacti are succulents, not all succulents are cacti.
