Introduction of Phragmites is unclear, but has been found in several areas all over Alberta. This species can reproduce by seeds dispersed by the wind or through root and shoot fragments, making removal of this species very difficult once it has been established in an area. There are native species of Phragmites that are hard to differentiate from the invasive, so it’s important to report any sightings to your local weed inspector. The palm Euterpe edulis, a native species of the Atlantic forest, occurs along the entire Brazilian coast. Its #exploitation was historically very intense and it is currently considered a vulnerable species.
