“Nobody sees a flower,
really — it is so small — we haven’t time, and to see takes time,
like to have a friend takes time.” Georgia O’Keefe
The series called Breath is about looking. Many of the images in this
series are photograms. A photogram is made without a camera, without a
negative. To make these images the flower is placed directly under the
enlarger light. The image is then captured on photographic paper. These
photograms are a very special way for me to "look". They ask
one to see the flower in a particularly intimate way.
Look closely at some of the images and you can see the plant juices ooze
out of the flower as it is crushed between the pieces of glass. The still
life images of flowers arrange themselves in beautiful patterns to be
captured by the photographer’s lens. Those images that are not flowers
are also about seeing, about seeing the beauty in everyday simplicity,
a café chair, a pair of feet or whatever.
