Native Ginger
An Australian rainforest species that is well suited to shady areas in the landscape. This species is referred to as a ginger-related plant. Leaves are divided into leaflets that are up to 40 cm long and 3–10 cm wide; the actual leaf up to 1.5 m long rises up from an underground rhizome. Small flowers are produced on a summer inflorescence followed by blue fruit capsules about 1 cm round. Pulp around the seed is edible when young and fresh.
