• Shape: Tree
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
• Flower: elongated cluster – catkin, male; groups of 1-3, at tips of year old branches, 2 ¼-4 ½ inches long, female, on new lateral twigs, ¾-1 ½ inches long
• Leaves: oval with pointed tip, 2-4 ½ inches long, 1 ¼-2 ½ inches wide, double toothed
• Bark: yellow, thin, translucent, peeling in strips
• Fruit/Seed: egg shaped cone-like cluster, green-brown, ¾-1 inch long
• Height: 50-85 feet
• Flowering: May
• Habitat: hardwood forest
