Pinckneya bracteata  'Adora' RARE EXCLUSIVE NEW RELEASE is a remarkable new tetraploid (4N).  Pinckneya bracteata was produced by Nick Lazio for a breeding project he was working on.  By doubling the chromosome number of typical Pinckneya bracteata (2N) to (4N), he was hoping this would allow him to cross Pinckneya bracteata  with Emmenopterys henryi (a fairly close relative but much larger growing and more cold hardy).  Nick hopes someone will try making this hybrid.  Pinckneya  bracteata 'Adora' differs from the typical species type in having very rounded leaves, much more compact growth habit and darker pink flowers.  This is an extremely RARE, NEW plant that is so new, we haven't  yet planted one out into our own garden!  Be among the very first to try this very interesting southeast (USA) native shrub.  Probably best grown in well drained but moisture retentive soil in full sun to light shade.  Hardiness has not been tested anyplace - too NEW!  We are very excited that he allowed us to release this awesome NEW cultivar for him!  THANKS!  Also thanks to Nick Lazio for permission to use the picture of a the flowering plant.
