Couepia subcordata, Marirana, belongs to is a genus of flowering plants in the family Chrysobalanaceae which was described as a genus in 1775. Marirana is an evergreen tree with a broad, frondose crown; it can grow 10 - 20 metres tall. The short, somewhat crooked bole can be 30 - 40cm in diameter. Couepia is native to Mesoamerica and South America. The seeds average 13 grams weight, 50-56mm length, 22-24mm width, are hairy and brown.
