Coleus forskohlii,Wild, Medicinal Herb
Boldo (Peumus boldus Molina) is an evergreen shrub or small tree that grows in Chile, Peru and Brazil. Its dry leaves have been reported in medicinal use since the 19th century in South America against diseases of the liver and gallstones. In 1870, the leaves of Peumus boldus have been introduced in Europe.
Boldo is used for mild gastrointestinal (GI) spasms, gallstones, achy joints (rheumatism), bladder infections, liver disease, and gonorrhea. It is also to increase urine flow to rid the body of excess fluids, reduce anxiety, increase bile flow, and kill bacteria.
CONSTITUENTS: Peumus boldus has two compounds of commercial interest: essential oils and alkaloids that are present in different parts of the plant, but its leaves are especially rich. Boldine is the active principle of boldo. It is an antioxidant and hepatoprotective and inhibits cyclooxygenase. Boldo leaves are rich in several alkaloids of aporfino type, which boldine is the most abundant. Pharmacological actions arise from their antioxidant (eg cytoprotective, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-atherogenic) properties, as well as those that do not appear to be associated with such activity (eg vasorelaxing, anti-trypanocidal, And neuro-modulatory, cholagogic and / or choleretic). The antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Peumus boldus leaves was also reported. The addition of boldo to substrates containing riboflavin and tryptophan protects people from exposure to light due to the kidnapping of singlet oxygen by the antioxidants present in this plant. Many molecules contribute to the antioxidant activity of boldo.
