The whodunnit is already in production in North Queensland.
Described by producers as a unique coming-of-age drama, the storyline begins with the slaying of a teenager, Isabel Baker, in 1995.
The killing rocked the small town of Ashford and devastated Isabel's community.
No one was ever caught for the murder, but in 2020 a time capsule unearths a vital clue that puts Detective James Cormack (Fimmel) on the path to solving the crime.

Fimmel will star alongside Brooke Satchwell (Mr Inbetween), Alexander England (Alien: Covenant) and actor and comedian Rob Carlton.
Other cast members include Kym Gyngell, Erik Thomson and rapper Ziggy Ramo, who is making his screen debut in the series.
They are joined by newcomers Talijah Blackman-Corowa, Jemmason Power and Molly Fatnowna.

The role of Detective Cormack will be a change of pace for Fimmel, a former Calvin Klein model who found fame on The History Channel series Vikings in 2013.
Fimmel is currently starring in the HBO Max sci-fi series Raised by Wolves.
The creative team for Black Snow includes creator Lucas Taylor (Harrow), Rosemary Blight (The Invisible Man), and co-producers Lois Randall and Kaylene Butler.
The show is produced by Sydney-based company Goalpost Pictures and is directed by Sian Davies (The Gloaming) and Matt Saville (Please Like Me).
