Loughborough Junction’s Sunshine International Arts – C.A.F.E is on the lookout for fifteen energetic locals to join their Notting Hill Carnival procession at this year’s carnival which takes place on Sunday 24th and Monday 25th August this year.
If you’ve ever wanted to take part in the Notting Hill Carnival, now is your chance as Loughborough Junction’s award winning carnival company Sunshine International Arts – C.A.F.E is inviting creative locals to get involved with their performance this year.
Artistic Director Ray Allan Mahabir told us “We’re looking for volunteer performers who wish to join us in this unique project. We need 15 people to be part of our opening piece at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival – no experience is needed…
If you are over 18 and think you’ve got energy, creativity and commitment, why not come along and get involved?
We offer transport on a red route master bus to and from Brixton. This bus is also with us on the day for your comfort and safety, music on the road, stewards and costume…
The costumes we are looking at are based on The Sailor Mas – a character introduced during the 1880s when American, French and English naval ships came to Trinidad.
Today it is one of the most dominant characters in Carnival and you will have the opportunity to decorate your costume to suit your own taste.”
S.i.A’s main body of carnival work is showcased each year at Notting Hill Carnival. Their work in carnival involves highly skilled art forms across street art, music, dance and costume.
They also produce work for national and international carnival events. Their annual carnival programme is funded by the Arts Council England.
The performance workshops will start on Sunday 27th July and run through to Sunday 17th August.
Anyone who would like to get involved should contact Ray on 07881 571734 or admin@sunshineiarts.co.uk for more information.
