Begonia melanobullata

34,95  VAT inc.

Begonia melanobullata is a rhizomatous begonia endemic to Gunung Ali, northern Vietnam. Its name refers to the very dark "bubbles or bubbles" of its leaves. It has a remarkable hairiness both on its stem and on the leaves. Its leaves, 13 to 21 cm long, are asymmetrical, bright green with numerous round black protrusions ending in a long trichome. Its natural habitat is the humid and semi-shaded cliffs and the calcareous slopes.

Begonia melanobullata is similar to Begonia ferox in adult stage but is easily distinguishable by a series of characteristics:

-When they are young, the new leaves of B.ferox do not present the characteristic bulges and trichomes that do appear in the young leaves of B.melanobullata.

- The adult leaves of B, melanobullata are more rounded and larger than the leaves of B.ferox.

- In the adult state, Begonia melanobullata retains the trichome at the end of the bulges of its leaves, while B.ferox loses it.

This begonia requires high humidity, so we recommend growing it in terrariums, glass domes or greenhouses.
