3-4'H Perennials

These taller perennials usually remain in the 3 to 4 feet high range under most conditions. Use them behind and among low to medium height growing perennials, as specimen plants, near the middle to the back of border, in front of medium and large shrubs and very tall perennials, and around larger tree form plants. Some of these will make nice container specimens and when used in combinations for large and very large containers. Growing conditions may affect the plant's ultimate size. This list may also include some tropicals that are grown as die-back perennials in zone 8B so just keep that in mind if you are in a colder climate.

Smallhead Doll's Daisy

Boltonia diffusa var. diffusa

Beginning in summer and continuing until the first frost, white upward facing, small, 1/2-3/4" wide, white daisies with a prominent yellow eye are borne singly and small clusters over a long period attracting a variety of bees, smaller butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Smallhead Doll's Daisy, Boltonia diffusa var. diffusa, is a medium to tall, stoloniferous, herbaceous perennial with blueish green narrow foliage. A native of the Southeastern US, it is normally seen in or near consistently moist areas and so it will likely prefer a moist to average moist soil and can tolerate both periodic drought and flooding once fully established. It will likely grow and flower best in a moist, average to well-drained soil in a full to mostly sunny location. Plants in too much shade or in overly fertile soils may flop and a late spring to early summer pruning can help to promote bushier sturdier plants if this is an issue. Smallhead Doll's Daisy may be best suited to naturalistic settings or near the back of the border. Item# 13338
