#1

Post by MSX »

Hello everyone!
Saw these a. arborescens (?) for sale, they catched my attention because of somewhat densely packed leaves

My arborescens looks a bit different with more open leaves

So my question, do we have two different varieties of a. arborescens here or are they the same?

I personally like this shape of a. arborescens with densely packed reaves rosettes and I wonder if the one above might be like this

Compact growth like that is a result of bright light. Watering has some effect too. Your plant appears softer grown, and the extra space between leaves is slight etoliation. The plant at the bottom appears to be growing in the open. If it was under shade cloth or in less light the rosettes would spread wider to capture more.

This image doesn't look like Arborescens to me. Arborescens has a different growth form. I can see bumps/spines at the back of the leaves, which makes me think this is something else.

Yes, looks rather like Aloe x spinosissima, so if that is the look you like maybe get one of those!

With the disclaimer that indiscriminate aloe hybrids are so common that it could be anything.

To me it looks like the Aloe 'California' I had. Blue green foliage, red bloom, a million pups. Mine had one single stem shoot up 3'...no other stem did that.

Here on the left is a. arborescens I propagated myself last year from a pup taken from an old and huge motheraloe, on the right is my new aloe that I got a couple of days ago, both have 8-9 leaves set and one small pup, but they look so different anyway...
