Kumar, V. S. & Sharma, B. D. 1995. Two new taxa of Pogostemon (Lamiaceae) from India. - Nord. J. Bot. 15: 163–166. Copenhagen. ISSN 0107–055X.A new species Pogostemon hedgei and a new variety P. speciosus var. filiformis, are described from South India. Both belong to sect. Pogostemon.
PhytoKeys
Pogostemon guamensis Lorence & W.L.Wagner (Lamiaceae), a new species from Guam, Mariana IslandsWhile undertaking a botanical survey of the Andersen Air Force Base on Guam (Mariana Islands) in 1994, botanists from the National Tropical Botanical Garden collected an unusual suffrutescent, non-aromatic member of the Lamiaceae family growing on limestone cliffs in the northeastern part of the island. Based on morphology and molecular data (trnLF, matK), it was determined to belong to the genus Pogostemon Desf., a genus previously unknown from the Micronesian, Melanesian, and Polynesian region. Moreover, the analysis also showed that it was not conspecific with P. cablin (patchouli), and of the species available to include in the phylogenetic analyses it is sister to P. hirsutus¸ a species from India and Sri Lanka. Differing from its congeners by its large, loose inflorescence 2.5–5 cm wide and up to 7 cm wide in fruit, it is here illustrated and described as a new species, Pogostemon guamensis Lorence & W.L. Wagner and its habitat and conservation status are discussed.
The aim of the present study is to determine the phytoconstituents present in the petroleum ether, acetone and methanol extracts of leaves and flowers of Pogostemon quadrifolius using GC –MS. The shade dried powdered leaves and flowers of Pogostemon quadrifolius were extracted sequentially using petroleum ether, acetone and methanol in increasing order of polarity using soxhlet apparatus. GC-MS analysis were performed using Thermo Scientific Trace 1300 Gas chromatograph equipped with ISQ-QD Mass spectrometer. GC MS analysis revealed 37 phytochemical compounds in the petroleum ether

Three new species of Plectranthus (Lamiaceae) from south Western Ghats are here recognised for the first time, viz., Plectranthus petricola J.Mathew & B.J.Conn, Plectranthus idukkianus J.Mathew, Yohannan & B.J.Conn and Plectranthus saxorum J.Mathew, Yohannan & B.J.Conn. Taxonomic descriptions, morphological differences to their allied taxa and colour photographs are provided to facilitate easy identification in the field.
Abstract: The present study deals with the investigation of Pogonatum perichaetiale subsp. thomsonii from Watan Village, Pithoragarh. The important characteristics of this species are plants simple, leaves stiff, tufted and forming a bud like structure when dry, margin sharply toothed in upper part of the leaves, costa ends in a sharp awn like point. Leaf base 1/4 to 1/5 of the total leaf length, lamellae 5 6 cells high, end cells of lamellae thick walled, smooth rectangular. The present study recognizes Pogonatum perichaetiale subsp. thomsonii a rare species from Uttarakhand which is a new addition to west Himalayan bryoflora of India. Keywords: Polytrichaceae - Awn like point - Lamellae - End cells - India.

Checklist of family Poaceae in Lahaul and Spiti district (Cold Desert), Himachal Pradesh, IndiaThe present study provides an overview of the diversity and distribution of grass species in Lahaul- Spiti district (cold desert) situated in the Trans-Himalayan region i.e. Himachal Pradesh, India. From the study area 141 taxa (138 species and 3 subspecies) belonging to 14 tribes were recorded. The largest tribe was Festuceae followed by Agrostideae having 48 and 20 species, respectively. Two species Poa koelzii and P. Lahaulensis are endemic to Lahaul- Spiti. Puccinellia kashmiriana is rare as per IUCN status. The present study on the grass floral wealth of Lahaul-Spiti provides an important baseline data on grasses for further quantitative and qualitative investigations like their nutritive values, crop improvement programmes and shall also help in the identification of priority conservation areas in the region.
