In this work, the authors describe and illustrate a new species of the genus Catasetum L. C. Rich ex Kunth: Catasetum taquariense Bicalho, Barros e Moutinho. This species has been known for a fairly long time under cultivation and comes from the states of Mato Grosso and Minas Gerais, in Brazil.

A NEW SPECIES OF CATASETUM (ORCHIDACEAE) FOR THE STATE OF MATO GROSSO, BRAZIL - 20082008 •
Catasetum paranaitense, a new species of Catasetum, is recorded for the southern Amazon region of Mato Grosso. The species presents unique characters and stands out alongside the other species occurring in the region, being compared only to Catasetum osakadianum and C. multifidum. Recorded in an area bounded by the Paranaíta and Teles Pires rivers, in the municipality of Paranaíta, State of Mato Grosso, the species is described, illustrated and has its status discussed in this paper. A new variety is also described and illustrated: the estroisii form.
Catasetum brasilandense, a new species from the Brazilian state Mato Grosso is described. This species was found in a difficult access area with rugged topography, in the municipality of Nova Brasilandia, in the vicinity of the Rio das Mortes. It is closely related to Catasetum gladiatorium, differing mainly by the labellum structure.
In this paper we report the discovery of Catasetum planiceps, in the Serra da Ibiapaba, as a new and important event for the flora of Ceará, Brazil. The species was recorded growing as a rupicolous herb in vegetation called ‘Macambiral’, which is an area of ‘brejo forest’, in the Serra da Ibiapaba in the municipality of Ipueiras. The vegetation in this area is a mixture of semi-deciduous tropical moist forests and ‘carrasco’ vegetation, forming an important ecotone in the caatinga vegetational domain. Collected material was deposited in the EAC and UFMT herbaria and a sample was sent to the DNA bank of the Laboratório de Sistemática e Ecologia Molecular de Plantas of the Universidade Federal do Paraná (Curitiba, Paraná State, Brazil). This new record is of great importance because the type of habitat in which it was registered is very different from that originally described for this species.

In the present study a new Catasetum species is proposed. It belongs to the Catasetum barbatum group and was found in the campina vegetation of the Reserva Biológica de Campina located in the north of Manaus, Amazonas state, Central Brazilian Amazon. A detailed description of the taxon is given as well as a photograph plate and comments on habitat, distribution and phenology. The new species is compared to congeneric species occurring in the Brazilian Amazon. It mainly differs by lip characters. A key to the species occurring in the Reserva Biológica de Campina is proposed. 188 Résumé Nous proposons dans cet article un nouveau taxon de Catasetum appartenant au complexe Catasetum barbatum. Il a été trouvé dans la végétation de campina de la
The State of Rondônia is rich in species of Catasetum that are still undervalued, which presents a major challenge in the preparation of a map that shows the distribution and all occurrences of the species of the genus. As a result of our studies, four new records are presented for the State of Rondônia and a new natural hybrid is described and illustrated. Samples of all species were collected for DNA extraction (aliquots kept in the Total DNA Bank of Plants UFPR – UPCB-DNA) and vouchers deposited at the herbaria UFMT and the RB.
aBstract. A new species of Catasetum was found in eastern Colombia, Casanare Department, in the Orinoquía bioregion. The species is described and illustrated, and data associated with its phenology, distribution and conservation status are discussed. The new species, C. lucisuareziae, is related to other species found in the same region, like C. rectangulare and C. callosum, from which it mainly differs by the three-lobed labellum and the presence of two subglobular calli at the base. resuMen.
A new species of Catasetum has been found along the banks of the River Teles Pires, in the Southern region of the Brazilian Amazon. In the present study it is described and illustrated, and has its conservation status discussed. The species presents unique features and stands out among others found in the same region, and can be compared partially to C. mattosianum.
In Colombia, the Andean region has the largest number of orchid species and therefore it has been the most studied area. In contrast, the bioregion of the Orinoco River basin is considered the poorest in orchid records. Catasetum rectangulare is a little known endemic species of the Orinoco River basin. The aim of this investigation is to understand aspects of diversity and distribution of C. rectangulare in the Colombian Orinoquía. The distribution of C. rectangulare was studied in the departments of Arauca, Casanare, Cundinamarca and Meta, associated with the Andean foothills and high plain, with an elevation range of 182-588 masl. Additionally, data of floral morphological variation, fruition, phorophyte preference and conservation status were established based on native populations. In conclusion, C. rectangulare is a species that concentrates its abundance in the department of Meta, so it can be considered an area for in situ conservation.
