Medicinal plants have attained a significant role in health system all over the world for both humans and animals not only in the diseased condition but also as potential material for maintaing proper health. Cassia auriculata L. (Ceasalpiniaceae) is a shrub that has attractive yellow flowers. Cassia auriculata was observed to have anti-diabetic activity in thr present study.

Cassia auriculata Linn (vernacular name: Avartaki,) is a traditional medicine used in the treatment of Diabetes mellitus. The present study is aimed to find out the phytochemical evaluation of Cassia auriculata Linn seeds using qualitative and quantitative tests on extracts. The chemical studies of different extracts were screened for the presence of phytochemicals. Fourier Transformer Infra-Red studies were done for functional group identification. The quantitative yield and its determination of various phytochemicals such as polyphenols were confirmed. Also a rapid and reverse phase Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography (RP-UHPLC) method developed with help of UV detector for six polyphenolic compounds namely gallic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, ellagic acid, epicatechin and epigallocatechin.

Flowers of Cassia Surattensis Burm.f. (Piperaceae) possess several bioactivities and are used in traditional medicinal systems. However, its anti diabetic activity has not been scientifically investigated so far. The aim of this study therefore, was to investigate the anti diabetic activity of Cassia Surattensis flower. This was tested in nor-moglycaemic and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats using oral administration of hot water extract (HE) and ethanolic extract (EE). In normoglycaemic rats, both HE and EE significantly lowered the blood glucose level in a dose-dependent manner. In glucose tolerance test, both extracts markedly reduced the external glucose load. The anti diabetic activity of HE is comparable to that of EE. Both extracts were found to be non-toxic and well tolerated after following chronic oral administration (no overt signs of toxicity, hepatotoxicity or renotoxicity). It is concluded that HE and EE of Cassia Surattensis flower possess safe and strong anti diabetic activity and efficacy of both extracts was almost comparable to that of glybenclamide

Comparative Evaluation of the Antidiabetic Effects of Different Parts of Cassia fistula Linn, a Southeast Asian Plant2013 •
The hypoglycemic effect of the methanolic and aqueous extracts of whole parts of Cassia fistula in both normoglycemic and streptozotocin-nictotinamide induced Type 2 diabetic rats were investigated. Acute toxicity, oral glucose tolerance test and glucose uptake in isolated rat hemidiaphragm were performed in normal rats. Diabetes was induced in Sprague Dawley rats by the administration of streptozotocin-nictotinamide (50, 110 mg/kg b.w., resp.) intraperitoneally. Different extracts of Cassia was administered to diabetic rats at 250 and 500 mg/kg doses for 21 days. Biochemical parameters like blood glucose, insulin, glycosylated hemoglobin, lipid profile, and serum marker enzymes were determined. The methanolic extract of the bark and leaves were show more effective in causing hypoglycemia in normoglycemic rats. Diabetic rats showed increased levels of glycosylated hemoglobin, reduced levels of plasma insulin, were significantly reverted to near normal after oral administration of the bark and leaf methanolic extracts. Glucose uptake studies in isolated rat hemidiaphragm have shown enhanced peripheral utilization of glucose. Chronic treatment of Cassia remarkably restored the normal status of the histopathological changes observed in the selected tissues. Dose dependent anti-diabetic effects with the cohorts receiving the methanolic extract of bark followed by leaves of Cassia was revealed.

Antihyperglycemic activity of various fractions of Cassia auriculata linn. in alloxan diabetic rats2008 •
Abstract The present study was undertaken to evaluate antidiabetic and antioxidant activities of Cassia tora (C. tora) seeds extract against streptozotocin induced diabetes in experimental rats to scientifically validate its use against diabetes. Ethanolic extract of C. tora seeds extract and standard drug (glibenclamide) prepared in aqueous gum acacia (2 %, w/v) suspension and fed orally to streptozotocin induced male adult diabetic rats of Charles Foster strain for 15 days. Biochemical parameters in normal, diabetic control, standard (600 lg/kg bw p.o.) and treated (500 mg/kg bw p.o.) animal groups were quantified and compared. Treatment of streptozotocin induced diabetic rats with ethanolic seeds extract caused significant (p\0.001) reduction in blood glucose (270–220 mg/dl), total cholesterol (140–104 mg/dl), triglyceride (149–99 mg/dl), phospholipids (100–74 mg/dl), free fatty acid (2.39–2.00 lmol/l), lipid peroxide (9–5.63 nmol MDA/dl) and significantly increased post heparin lipolytic activity (11–14 nmol FFA released/h/l plasma) (p\0.001). Furthermore, the seeds extract (100–400 lg) when tested for its antioxidant activity in vitro, showed significant (p\0.001) inhibition in the generation of super oxide anions in enzymic system a (46–37, 33, 23, 21 nmol uric acid formed/min), in enzymic system b (113–91, 77, 60, 51 nmol formazon formed/min), non-enzymic system (324–230, 211, 161, 141 nmol uric acid formed/min) and hydroxyl radicals in enzymic system (544–501, 411, 319, 291 nmol 2,3-dihydroxybenzoate formed/h) and non-enzymic system (28–21, 17, 14, 12). The results of the present study demonstrated antidiabetic, antidyslipidemic and antioxidant activities of C. tora seeds which could help in prevention of diabeticdyslipidemia and related complications. Background and Objective: The leaves of Cassia siamea Lam. (Fabaceae) have been widely used in folklore medicine for the treatment of diabetes and hypertension. This study aimed to investigate if aqueous extract of leaves of C. siamea can protect against hyperglycemia in experimental diabetes. Materials and methods: Preliminary, acute toxicity of aqueous extract of C. siamea (LACS) was evaluated. Then, acute hypoglycemic test and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) were performed for three doses of LACS (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg/bw; vo) in non-diabetic Wistar rats. Third, in alloxan-induced diabetic rats, oral treatment with LACS (200 mg/kg/day), vehicle (10 mL/kg/day) and glibenclamide (10 mg/kg/day) was performed for 4 weeks.
