Bulbophyllum abangjoei sp. Nov. (Orchidaceae: Dendrobieae), a New Species of Orchid from SarawakBulbophyllum abangjoei is a new one-flowered orchid species described from Lanjak Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary, Katibas and Anap-Muput, Tatau, Sarawak. The taxonomic treatment is accompanied by taxonomic notes, information on the species’ affinities at infrageneric level, geographical distribution, habitat ecology, and implications for their conservation. It is morphologically almost similar to Bulbophyllum deviantiae, B. membranifolium, and B. sanguineolentum, but clearly differs in the long, narrowly oblong to linear leaf blade, subsessile petiole ca. 5 mm long, long narrowly cylindrical pseudobulbs with some mature pseudobulbs reaching ¾ length of the leaf blade, non-resupinate flowers, shortly upcurved and not emarginate labellum apex, and elliptic-oblong stelids at lower margins near the apex of the column. For these morphological differences, B. abangjoei is here described as distinct and new species to science. The new species is so far only known from three localities in prote...

Bulbophyllum (Orchidaceae: Epidendroideae) of Indonesian Borneo: a new species and first record for B. lyriforme2022 •
A new species of orchid, Bulbophyllum pulanense, is described based on specimens collected from Kapuas Hulu Regency, Kalimantan Barat Province of Indonesian Borneo. Bulbophyllum lyriforme, is also presented here as a new record for Borneo, formerly only known from cultivated plants collected from New Guinea. Both species are described and illustrated with both line drawings and photographs.

Thirty two new species of Bulbophyllum, all from Sulawesi, are described. Names currently in use for various sections of Bulbophyllum are made junior synonyms to older sectional names that have been ignored so far, partly because their taxonomic content, as appears from the suite of species listed with the original descriptions of these sections, was ambiguous. These sectional names are lectotypifi ed and re-instated.
A new species, Bulbophyllum papuaense, was described and illustrated from Indonesia. Bulbophyllum papuaense is similar to Bulbophyllum tortuosum and B. muscohaerens but differs from them by having rhizome and pseudobulbs covered with papillose scales, caudate and ciliate petals, linear and ciliate lip.

Diversity of Orchidaceae from Murum Dam, Belaga, Sarawak, BorneoMurum Dam in Sarawak is located about 70 km upstream of Bakun Dam, on the rivers Murum, Danum and Plieran, forming a reservoir over an area of 245 km2. The area consists of mainly lowland to hilly mixed dipterocarp forests, with riparian and alluvial forests along the main rivers and streams, as well as patches of mossy and heath forests. Most of these forests are logged over and some areas have been converted into oil palm plantations. A flora rescue project was carried out to collect selected plant species including orchids from the areas affected by the dam. Most epiphytic orchids were collected from partially submerged trees. Over 2,000 specimens of orchids from 80 genera and c. 276 species were collected from May 2013 to December 2014. The most abundant genus recorded is Bulbophyllum Thouars (c. 44 species). Of these, 37 species are endemic to Borneo, two (Bulbophyllum upupops J.J.Verm., P.O’Byrne & A.L.Lamb and Thrixspermum lingiae P.O’Byrne & Gokusing) are newly described and...
Paphiopedilum exul, Calanthe chrysoglossoides, and Luisia brachystachys are reported here as new records for Malaysia, whereas Bryobium cordiferum subsp. borneense, Habenaria rostellifera, and Taeniophyllum rugulosum are three rare orchid species recollected from Sarawak, Perlis, and Perak, respectively. This paper highlights brief descriptions and photographic illustrations of each species for easy identification. Besides, notes on morphological comparisons with the closely related species and artificial taxonomic keys are included as well.

A Species Checklist of Wild Orchids in Selected Sites in Kadamaian, Kota Belud, SabahA brief orchid diversity study was conducted from 14th to 19th October 2019 in Kadamaian, located northwest of Kinabalu area, through a scientific geographic expedition. A convenience sampling method was employed with only the flowering individuals collected and preserved as herbarium specimens. A total of 58 species and 32 genera were identified during the field visits to the Mount Nopungguk, Melangkap Noriou, Ulu Sungai Melawa, and basecamp site. The finding comprises of 43 epiphytes, 13 terrestrials, and two mycoheterotrophs. Appendicula congesta, Bulbophyllum disjunctum, Dendrobium kiauense, and Goodyera rostellata are species endemic to Borneo found during the expedition along with Crepidium multiflorum, a hyper-endemic species to Kinabalu area. Several rare species which narrowly distributed to primary forest habitat were discovered, including jewel orchids; Cystorchis variegata var. variegata and Anoectochilus geniculatus, and two mycoheterotrophs; Aphyllorchis pallida and Le...
