Bouteloua gracilis 'Blonde Ambition' is a dense, clump-forming, warm season grass which is noted for its brush- or eyelash-like flower spikes which, in the case of 'Blonde Ambition,' appear bright yellow before turning to seed, when they bleach to a natural pale blonde color. Although showy with seeds and flowers, this cultivar is relatively compact; foliage is relatively low growing, and flower spikes only grow to about two feet tall.

This cultivar of Bouteloua grows to typically between two and three feet tall with blue-gray leaves that turn to brilliant displays of golden bronze and red in the fall. The seed pods that form in the early autumn are persistent, adding interest to the landscape through the autumn and winter, and acting as a reliable food source for birds and small mammals.
