Inspiring Examples: Interiors That Showcase Le Corbusier Furniture
Le Corbusier, the Swiss architect and designer, was a true visionary. His bold, sculptural expressionism and functionalism have inspired countless designers and architects around the world. But it wasn’t until I visited my friend’s house (years ago) that I truly appreciated his work. My friend had just moved into a new home and had furnished it with an original beautiful LC2 chair. As soon as I sat in it, I was struck by how truly comfortable and beautiful it was. I couldn’t resist asking her where she got it from, and she told me all about Le Corbusier’s furniture designs. From that moment on, I was hooked and spent countless hours researching his work. In this article, I want to share some of my favorite inspiring interiors that feature furniture designed by Le Corbusier.
Le Corbusier - A True Design Icon
Le Corbusier, born Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, was a Swiss-French architect, designer, and urban planner who is widely regarded as one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. His legacy is lives on in his work in modern architecture, urban planning, and design(I am partial to his design). Le Corbusier’s ideas and designs were definitely ahead of their time, and he was a key figure in the development of modern architecture. He was a pioneer for the use of new materials and technologies, and his designs were characterized by their simplicity, functionality, and use of light and space. His most famous works include the Villa Savoye in France, the Unité d’Habitation in Marseille, and the Chandigarh Capitol Complex in India. Despite controversy surrounding some of his urban planning ideas, and his cozying up with the Nazis, Le Corbusier’s legacy continues to inspire architects and designers around the world. He was really that good!
Le Corbusier's Influence In Interior Decor
Le Corbusier was not only an architect and urban planner but also a furniture designer. His furniture designs were a significant part of his legacy. He believed that furniture should be functional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing, just like his architecture. Le Corbusier’s furniture designs were characterized by their clean lines, geometric shapes, and use of new materials such as steel and leather. His most famous furniture designs (which were designed with Charlotte Perriand and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret) include the LC2 and LC3 armchairs, the exemplary LC4 chaise longue, and the LC6 dining table. These designs have become iconic and are still highly sought after today. Le Corbusier’s furniture designs continue to inspire designers and are considered some of the most influential designs of the 20th century.
