    Musa Ornata. Flowering Banana.

The Musa Ornata brings an amazing tropical feeling to your garden growing up to 10ft tall. A fairly uncommon species having long slender stems with large narrow paddle shaped leaves up to 6ft long give instant impact and a sense of the jungle. In July flowers appear on mature plants of between 2-3 years, erect spikes of orange-yellow flowers with stunning pink bracts are then followed by greenish-yellow fruits. The fruits are edible with a creamy white flesh but have numerous black seeds running throughout making them probably not worth eating. The main stem dies after producing fruit but it suckers freely so there are always pups to take its place.

East to grow and fast, just water and feed generously during the growing season. Best kept sheltered from strong winds to avoid the leaves shredding or alternatively keep in a conservatory as a great feature plant.

Has gained the RHS Award For Garden Merit.
