Iris bucharica update
I always look forward to the bearded iris starting to bloom but I don’t want to wish spring away so make the most of what is flowering at each season. But one of my favourite iris is the Juno Iris bucharica. I mentioned this last year when it flowered the first time from the ‘bulbs’ (really fleshy roots and bulbs). The real test was what would happen this year. Junos need well-drained soil and it was winter wet that would be the problem. But they are planted at the top of a dry-stone wall even though the soil behind it is wet and clay. So how would they do? Well I am pleased to say that they have done really well. The individual spikes have a few less buds than last year but the bulbs have increased and there are many more stems than last year.
These are the only Junos that I can grow and they actually increase. Mine aren’ t out yet though. They are so pretty.
Yes I have always got on well with them, as long as they are in sun and well drained soil. The Iris aucheri did not do so well – a few flowered again this year but not as successfully as these.
