Type: Brazil. Amazonas: Creek Belém, municipality of São Paulo de Olivenqa, 26 Oct 1936 to 11 Dec 1936 (fl), Krukoff 8690 (holotype, NY; isotypes, A, BM, BR, F, G, K, LE, MICH, MO, S, U, US).
Description: Large trees, to 40.0 m tall, the young branches glabrous. Leaves: petiole 4.0-7.0 mm long, winged, canaliculate, glabrous; blades ovate-elliptic, 8.0-13.0 x 4.5-9.0 cm, glabrous abaxially, the base rounded, slightly decurrent onto petiole, the margins entire, slightly revolute, the apex abruptly acuminate, acumen 7.0-12.0 mm long, the midrib prominulous above, prominent and glabrous beneath, the primary veins in 14-19 pairs, without domatia at junction with midrib, prominulous above, prominent beneath, 3.0-9.0 mm apart at base. Inflorescences terminal and subterminal panicles to 13.0 cm long, the primary rachis and numerous branches glabrous, crustaceous, striate. Flowers sessile; calyx 2.0 mm long, turbinate, glabrous, the lobes triangular, very small and thick, glabrous on exterior; petals oblong-obovate, ca. 6.0 mm long, thick; androecium 2.0 mm diam. at base, with 17-25 stamens, the filaments reflexed; ovary 3-locular, the ovules 10-12 per locule, the style very short. Fruits and seeds unknown.

Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
Ecology: Very little is known about the ecology of this species.
Phenology: This species flowers between the end of Oct and beginning of Dec.
Pollination: No reports of pollination have been recorded.
Dispersal: Although nothing is known about the seeds of this species, it is presumed that they are either wind dispersed like terra firme species of the genus or water dispersed like the riverine Allantoma lineata.
Predation: No observations recorded.
Field characters: This species can be recognized by its large size; leaves with percurrent venation; inflorescences that are branched with striations along the rachises; and flowers that are small and thick with 17-25 reflexed stamens.
Taxonomic notes: When Flora Neotropica Monograph 21(1) was published (Prance & Mori, 1979) only one species was recognized in Allantoma, but Huang et al. (2008) demonstrated that some of the species of Cariniana were actually species of Allantoma and transferred them to Allantoma which now includes seven species.
