Lilly Pilly (Syzygium Oleosum) During the Summer Drought

Syzygium Oleosum (Lilly Pilly) from flower bud to fruit ripening

This summer is one of the hottest I have experienced. Trees provide shade and help maintain a conducive microenvironment for birds, bees, soil organisms, and plants. The best trees show no drought stress with minimal care once established. Our eight-year-old Lilly pilly tree got a massive pruning last year, but it has grown to its former height. It has been flowering and fruiting all year round. However, the summer crop is the largest of the year. The Lilly pilly tree has proved to be an invaluable addition to our subtropical Urban Eden Garden.
