Except that the photo that the OP posted , she was asking for ID, which artistic foodie thought was a worker termite. The photo that Jazzycat posted was not of a baby earth worm. A baby earth worm looks like this. She is preparing to plant blueberry bushes, thus I asked if termites would damages the bushes.

OK. As the original poster, I did ask what baby worms looked like. I also asked if they might be termites. I KNOW termites exist in nature, and they probably exist organically everywhere. I did have cardboard over the trench, as I was hoping to attract earthworms. I do not want to plant the blueberry bushes if they will be a problem (whatever they are). However, IF they ARE termites, because termites CAN BE a problem to the home, I'm wondering if I shouldn't also try to eliminate them BEFORE planted the blueberries.

ftr, as the OP, I personally don't mind when my threads grow organically and move into other subjects. I don't mind if my threads are hijacked. I actually learn things that way! Very Happy If my question remains unanswered, I'll ask it again. So please, no worries! What a Face

So... to plant, or not to plant. That is the question. Wink

OK, I'll plant.

As the expert on termites, can you give me any suggestions about what I should do about them if they aren't around the house? I know they're in the yard, I've seen them before over in one corner. It's a corner of the property where we don't do much to it, we just allow it to be organic, with fallen leaves, bamboo, etc. It's also kind of boggy in that corner. I've never seen them in other parts of the yard though. Do you think the bokashi could have drawn them out from there? Or maybe there were some eggs in the mushroom compost that I buried with the bokashi? At any rate, should I leave them be or try to kill them off with some DE or something? I would hate for them to become an issue because of something I could have prevented.

Thanks bunches, and thanks for the ID. Smile

They are in the ground, I am not sure about GA but here in North Texas there are approximately 10 -12 colonies per acre. They are out there, they may never make it to the house, they may already be there. You can think of them like ants under the ground - they are constantly foraging for food (cellulose). The workers job is to get the food and return to the colony, this is done daily. The colony along with the queen is located several feet down in the ground (5' - 10') so treating the surface will do no good. I'll leave it at that for this forum. If you would like more info you can email me or pm me specific questions and I certainly can go into more detail.
javascript:emoticonp('glad you\'re here') for the ID. I Loved working in the Pest Control Industry and educating potential clients on a wide variety of structural pests. I now have to educate myself on non-structural pests around the garden.
