Weed of the Month: Dioscorea bulbifera var. bulbifera

When most of us think of Valentine’s Day, we think of long-stemmed red Roses, pink Peonies, White Daisies, Red Tulips or Carnations, Sunflowers or quaint Forget-Me- Nots, we don’t normally think of weeds but there are weeds out there with heart-shaped leaves growing on suffocating vines which are anything but romantic, and know how to impose themselves on way up high into the upper canopies of the trees which make it very hard to ‘forget’ about them!

More commonly known as the Aerial Yam or Air Potato (due to the fruits they bear), today we look at the effects of an exotic vine weed which can cause quite an impact in our rainforests if we let them run rampant.
