Trimezia steyermarkii: Yellow Walking Iris

At first I thought this was an orchid, then I found out that Trimezia steyermarkii [walking Iris], belongs to family Iridaceae just like its cousin Gladiolus [sword Lily] or the commonly recognisable types, the bearded irises or flag irises.

Trimezia steyermarkii is a species of flowering plants in the family Iridaceae, native to the warmer parts of Central America and the West Indies.

Plants are up to 150 cm tall, with rhizomes up to 2-4 cm long and 2-3 cm wide; leaves are lanceolate, 60-150 cm long by 2 cm wide; flowers are yellow with brown spots.

Note:

Rhizomes is a stem of a plant that is usually found underground, often sending out roots and shoots from its nodes.

Lanceolate: Having the general shape of a lance; much longer than wide, with the widest part lower than the middle and a pointed apex.
