Located 1,300m above the sea level, Hon Ba enjoys an all-year- round cool climate with a high humidity level contributing to biodiversity. The humid tropical climate fosters the development of dense forests with abundant plants and wildlife.

Nature reserve projects in Hon Ba are required to be the foundation for the establishment of Hon Ba National Park. Hon Ba is one of Khanh Hoa Province's highest peak where packers will have a great experience of conquering nature.

Hon Ba has rich biodiversity with abundant species of flora.

Hon Ba Nature Reserve, 21,000ha, is located in the 4 districts of Dien Khanh, Cam Lam, Khanh Vinh and Khanh Son. Hon Ba is 30km from Nha Trang City and 55km from National Road 1A.

A celebrated scientist, Dr. Yersin, reached Hon Ba in 1915. Hon Ba is known to be home to 41 rare species of flora listed in the Red Book of Endangered Species.

In recent years, Hon Ba has attracted the attention of many domestic scientists and researchers such as the Institute of Ecology & Biological Resources (IEBR), the Center for Biodiversity & Development (CBD), Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture & Forestry, Bidoup Nui Ba National Park (Lam Dong Province), Phuoc Binh National Park (Ninh Thuan Province) and many scientific organizations in US and Korea.

Many rare species defined in the Government's Decree No.32/CP have been found in Hon Ba such as Pinus krempfii, Fokienia hodginisii, Dacrydium elatum, Podocarpus neriifolius, Cinnamomum cassia, Cinnamomum balansae, Paphiopedilum appletoniamum, Anoectochilus lylei and so forth.

Many local species include Rhododendron nhatrangense, Clerodendron nha trangense, Dendrobium nhatrangense, Medinilla honbaense, Lithocarpus yersinii, Rhododendron triumphans Yersin & A. Chev., etc. Primitive plants can also be seen such as Cyathea contaminans, Psilotum nudum, etc.

With great significance for biodiversity conservation, Hon Ba needs to be developed into a national park, a good place for scientific research and eco-tourism as well.
