DIY Wooden Curtain Rod for $10
Hi!! So, my husband really wanted black out curtains for our bedrooms, so we bought some curtains (these are the ones we got) BUT we still needed curtain rods. It can get a little pricey when you’re getting a bunch, so we ended up making our own for just over $10 each. Which is wayyy less than even the cheapest option in the store – and way cuter too! They ended up being even easier to make and hang than the regular store bought curtain rod was to hang in our living room – HA! It really is that easy to make!!

These curtain rods turned out so cute and very easyyyy as I mentioned before – such a home decor hack! I mean – you never notice curtain rods so why spend a bunch of $$$ on them?! But, if you do notice them they are really pretty if you ask me! I mean, just look at those leather accents *heart eyes*
Let’s get started!
SUPPLIES
1″ Wide Dowels – For the length we measured the width of the widow and added 5 inches on each side.
Very Fine Sand Paper
Screws
DIRECTIONS
- You can cut you dowels yourself or get them to cut them for you at the hardware store – most hardware stores offer this for free. Sand the dowels with very fine sand paper so that the curtain moves a long it easier.
- Cut strips of leather from your leather sheet with an exacto knife and ruler. Mine are 8.25″ long and 1″ wide. Then punch a hole through the leather on each end so that it’s easier to get the screw through.
- The leather sheet I got is sticky on one side so we stuck it on and wrapped it around each side of the dowel and poked the screw through. * Make sure to put your curtain on the rod before this step.
- Drill the screw into the wall while holding the other end of the curtain rod up (it’s a two person job). Then repeat with the other side.
That’s it! A simple DIY that is way cheaper than even the cheapest curtain rod you can get at the store + way, way cuter! I love how simple + classic they turned out!
