Stems narrowly 2-lined, black-gland-dotted, shortly whitish-pubescent or very rarely scabrid to glabrous; internodes 5–25 mm long, shorter to longer than leaves. Leaves sessile, spreading to erect; lamina 5–30 × 3–13 mm, broadly ovate to obovate or more usually lanceolate to narrowly elliptic or elliptic-oblong, concolorous, chartaceous, shortly whitish-pubescent to puberulous or very rarely glabrous; apex rounded, margin plane, base cuneate to rounded; venation: 2–3 pairs of lateral veins from lower quarter to sixth of midrib or near-basal, sometimes branching, larger leaves with obscure tertiary reticulation; laminar glands pale, dense and occasionally a few black, punctiform; marginal glands black, irregular. Inflorescence 1–16-flowered from 1–2 nodes, very rarely with one flowering branch from immediately below, the whole subcorymbiform; pedicels 1.5–8(–10) mm, slender, puberulous to glabrous; bracts and bracteoles linear, margin black-glandular-ciliate. Flowers 15–28 mm in diam.; buds ellipsoid, subacute. Sepals equal to subequal, free or slightly united, puberulous dorsally or all glabrous, (3–)4–6 × 1.2– 2 mm, narrowly oblong to triangular-lanceolate, rounded to subacute, base parallel to broadly cuneate, glandular-ciliate; veins 3–5(–7), not or obscurely branching; laminar glands pale and usually few to numerous black, punctiform; marginal glands black. Petals golden yellow, always(?) veined red, 9–15 × 4–7 mm, 2–3 × sepals, oblanceolate to obovate, rounded; laminar glands pale and/or black, punctiform; marginal glands black, few, scattered or usually absent. Stamens 23–36, longest 7–12 mm, c. 0.8 × petals. Ovary 2.5–3.5 × 1.2–2 mm, narrowly ovoid to ovoid-pyramidal; styles 4–5.5 mm, (1.2–)1.5–2 × ovary. Capsule (7–)9–11(–12) × 4–6 mm, ovoid to ovoid-acuminate; valves with one pair dorsal vittae (sometimes interrupted) and lateral vittae or vesicles.
