Hoya elliptica
About Hoya elliptica
With over 500 species and even more cultivars, there's a Hoya out there for everyone! They're native to Southeast Asia and their common name, waxplant, refers to their thick, waxy leaves which help them retain water in the heat. They're excellent climbers and will take off if you give them a trellis to grow on. Their other-worldly, star-shaped flowers are often fragrant and come in brilliant shades of red, pink, yellow, and more!

Finding light for Hoya elliptica in your home
Hoya elliptica may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Hoya elliptica in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Hoya elliptica
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Hoya elliptica after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Bud blast is sad, but it’s okay! I was so surprised the first thing the cutting tried to grow was a peduncle. 😅 What a silly plant. I was putting off transferring it to pon while I patiently waited for it to do its thing.. now I can finally get on with my planned plant chores. Next time when you’re little older little elliptica🤞how about we grow some new foliage first. #Hoya #HoyaHangout #HoyaHeads

Help! I went out of town for a few weeks and left my plants in husband care, and this #hoya is looking really rough! He liked it here before and even had new baby leaves. Not sure what's going on now or how to proceed to save him. #HoyaHangout #Hoya

Hello, I wanted to share a video with you all and ask for your thoughts. You all are a vast source of knowledge and experience, in addition, you all seem inquisitive and eager to learn more information. The video is of a woman planting a fern at her house, using only coco husk, near a rainforest type location (I don’t know exactly where she lives). You can fast forward to minute 3 to see what she does, she then shows different aged ferns and what their root systems look like using this method. There was one thing that she said that made me perk up, it was something along the lines of “I hear some people plant these in soil, but they don’t grow in soil.” While I know a #Hoya isn’t a fern, I was thinking of epiphytes and how they grow, of how small Hoya roots are and how top heavy a vine can be when repotting it. So, thought my sister @TheOddAsity and I, what would happen if you only used husk (and a little coir and possibly perlite, because we don’t live in the rainforest) to plant a #Hoya ? How well could the roots grow doing this? OR, what if part of the reason Hoyas sometimes grow slower than other plants is because the weight of the soil is part of the problem, and that loose well draining soil isn’t only about the water? Here it is: https:// #HoyaHangout @BabeVila @Rockrlee

Trip to the plant store.. and I had to take these 4 babies home! I'm on a #hoya craze these days, and I'm in love with the thick leaves 😍🪴 Now I just have to make the decision of what to pot them into 🤔 I'm considering just getting them into pon, but it would be my first experience with pon. 💧😬 Is there anyone with some good tips for these girls? ☺️🌿 #hoyahangout #hoyaheads #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #planttherapy #planthaul

Hoya help! He's been feeling sad for a month or so now. I am following the Greg watering schedule. I sprayed Neem oil a couple times in case it was mold or something. Please help! Any advice?!? #Hoya

This is my first hoya and I am still new to indoor plants! Since my anxiety calls the shots, I ordered this hoya online and it came in this condition. Is it healthy? Any tips? There are small brown spots and some of the leaves are hard on the ends. #Hoya

Fresh leaf Friday! I got some plant mail yesterday that I’m so excited about from #plantproper. HUGE thanks to the Greg team for the gift card thanking me for spending my spring break chatting with everyone on the app about plant care! I loved the extra time off to answer questions and learn more myself in the process about taking care of our plants. #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #GregGang #greggivesback #HappyPlants #FreshLeafFriday #Hoya #Maranta #HoyaHangout
