I Love Plectranthus barbatus White Rhino

Oct 15, 2021 | Gardens

Name: Plectranthus barbatus White Rhino

Type of Plant:  An annual valued for foliage color in sun or shade. This plant grows between 3 and 4 feet tall in one summer. It will be shorter in smaller containers and taller in the ground or larger pots.

Why I Love This Plant: I’ve never met a Plectranthus I didn’t like, so I was immediately attracted to this one when I saw it on the Avant Gardens website.  I ordered several and planted them in a variety of containers this summer. As with most of these plants, they were adaptable and grew with ease in sun or part shade. They are known to be not so appealing to both deer and rabbits. And they are great in gardens or containers with other plants.

A Word to the Wise: Plectranthus are really easy to root from cuttings. You can take cuttings in the fall and root them for next season, or do so in the early summer in order to have more plants for assorted containers and gardens. Have fun!

Variegated foliage that stays fresh looking all summer, dry or not, that’s what this Plectranthus brings to the party. In this pot the plants grew to about three feet tall and wide.

Here is my container by the garage doors in June. You can se the White Rhino Plectranthus in the mix. This plant plays well with others!

As the summer went on, this plant grew to be about 4 feet tall in the containers where it had some good room to stretch its roots.
