Description: To 4 m, leafy shoots with up to 21 leaves, in dense clump, support roots well-developed tending stilting, reddish. Base to 5 cm across, reddish brown. Sheath yellow-green mottled red. Ligule sessile with two lateral lobes. Lamina to 70 x 15 cm, plain green with red spots scattered. Inflorescence from the base of leafy shoot, to 15 cm in total, peduncle adscending to become erect, 5–7 cm, peduncular bracts greenish, tinged reddish, with gigant mucron, spike subglobular 4 –6 x 4 cm, bracts orange-brown when young, flowers emerging 2 cm freely above the spike. Receptacle c. 3 cm. Fertile bract pink to pale brown, short-lasting, bracteole shorter than bract, pale pink, calyx cream to pink at apex, corolla tube very pale pink, corolla lobes and margin of labellum pink (recurved), anther cream yellowish green tinged pink, stigma pink. Mature fruits produced in June 2005. Infructescence head to 10 x 10 cm, pale brown more or less tinged red, fruit rounded, flat-topped, spiny.
