Post 1997 Brigade RSM and RSM-A insignia

Hello,

In response to a question about the design of the current (brigade-level) RSM hat badge insignia, we have taken these quick images of items included in the (pending) 3rd Volume, of our books series which covers (Metal) Uniform Embellishment of the Australian Army, post 1953 (i.e. the ‘QEII’ era insignia).

Brigade RSM and RSM-A Hat badges obverse detail

As you will see, the items are shown adjacent to current issue Q-Store packaging, so that the correct NSN item label information can be clearly seen.  We hope that this additional provenance detail, will help to establish the current issue status of these items.

Next, it is worthwhile noting that these current issue rank insignia specimens, very closely reflect the design detail of the earlier period (‘anodised aliminium’) insignia for both Brigade-Level RSM and RSM of the Army rank insignia.

We hope this addresses the question rased about these insignia and that this material proves to be a useful ‘advanced look’ at our work on Volume 3, covering (metal) rank and trade insignia in the ‘QC’ (post 1953) period.

Yours in research and collecting

I am the "C" component of the "CB" numbering system used in our book called: Metal Uniform Embellishments of the Australian Army, Post 1953 ('QEII Series') Vol 1 (Insignia for Corps and Schools etc). Yep... that's a mouthful and the 614 page eBook is an eyeful to match... with images of the front and back of each item, as well as weights and measures for each, so that badge variants can be reliably distinguished by collectors, dealers, historians, re-enactor groups and enthusiasts anywhere in the world.
