A photo-documentary on cowboys on the JA Ranch in the Texas Panhandle, shot by McCombe, a long-time and well-respected Life magazine photographer. McCombe, who was 27 years old at the time, was an English photographer who first gained international prominence for his pictures of East German refugees at the end of World War II. Previously he had covered war assignments for the English pictorial magazine Picture Post, including the Normandy Campaign. He is considered by some to be the equal of Robert Capa as a war photojournalist.
